A little bird asked me one day:
"Do you have any tips for writing on a blog? So you can always have an idea to keep on writing?"
Hmm...
Come to think of it, I don't really have a special instruction that I need to follow, perhaps only one or two. I write what I want to write. So it might be a bit... okay okay, waaaay too personal to share in such a platform. Therefore, I can't really give any useful tips regarding the above question. And who am I? I am nobody, I ain't J.K Rowling.
But if I really have to, here are a few tips on writing that I hope might be useful for you.
1. Your surroundings is the place where ideas are born
Look at what happens around you. All the things you see, you can use for your inspiration. Take poems, for example. Lots of poems use rain as a reference, right? Even the simplest thing like rain can be a huge inspiration. So, take a look, and look closely ;)
2. Let the words flow naturally
Sometimes we're just thinking too much, such as "what word will I use next?". That blank page will not fill itself out if you're thinking too much and not writing enough ;)
So let it pour however it wants. If you're using an online platform like me (e.g Blogger or Tumblr), you can always edit it after.
3. Keep it simple
Still related to point number 2, you don't have to use hard words that you got from thesaurus just so your writing will look somewhat poetic. You can use your own words, so it'll be a lot easier for you to write. What I always do when writing is that as if I'm talking to my best friend, it's easier for me to compose the sentences that way. When you're talking to your friend, you won't use a word that you rarely used right? Hehehe.
4. Make sure you deliver the meaning
There must be a meaning behind every sentence, right? Something that you want to tell your readers. The meaning of your writing can be explicit or implicit, whichever you like. But make sure that your readers get it. Because this can be very easy to get lost along the way, seriously. No joke.
So make sure that you're able to deliver this to your readers.
5. Re-read it, out loud, but not too loud. Lol.
I always do this before I publish a post on my blog, sometimes 3 or 4 times, to find any errors such as typos, or the sentences are too convoluted (over and over again), or the words are just too weird, and I need to find the substitute so it'll be a lot simpler and more understandable.
And yeah, read it out loud, I mean with voice. You got what I mean? I don't know if anyone also doing this but, I find this very helpful though. Here's a little secret, I have a rule, if it sounded weird on my tongue, then it's not the correct words, I need to change it. Do you get the analogy?
I mean, I don't want to read something that I, myself, find odd in my tongue, let alone my readers (if I have one).
So... there you have it, five writing tips.
But the most important thing aside from those tips you just read is, and I'm going to borrow from Nike's jargon,
"Just do it"
I'm serious. Write what you want to write, the jury is always out there to judge you, then why the hell bother with what they say if they're still gonna judge you anyway?
Okay?
So just write, you don't have to worry about them. If they don't like your writings, well, it's simply not their cup of tea :)
Whew...
To be honest, I don't feel like I have the right to be in such a superior position to give this. I mean... Who am I kidding? I haven't published my book, people don't know me, I'm not a famous person (like duh), and again, I ain't J.K Rowling.
But if these five tips are somehow useful for you, I don't know, somehow, perhaps, then... yay for me.
