Some people just don’t deserve you. And sometimes, you don’t realize that until you’ve given too much, be it your attention, your time, or your energy, to people who never truly saw you.
It’s a sign for you to stop giving that much. Because I’ve been in that position and I know the pain.
I was that person. The one who remembered birthdays, gave thoughtful gifts, showed up at every special occasions, and offered help whenever it was asked.
But what did I get in return? Not even a “Happy Birthday.” I wasn’t even expecting a surprise party or gifts whatsoever. I just want them to remember my birthday like I did them. I even dropped clues on Instagram, hoping someone would remember. They saw it. Liked it. But still, silence.
And there was that one day. I hadn’t seen this friend in a while. We were all hanging out, waiting. When they finally arrived, I was so happy to see them. I opened my arms, ready to hug them. I knew they’d been having a rough week.
Did we hug? No. They walked right past me and hugged someone else. And to add insult to the injury, that moment where I sat with my open arms and being ignored, was recorded and posted on Instagram Story. I don’t know how many people have watched me being that much invisible. But I know how humiliated I felt.
So, I vowed to never give anyone more than I receive. I don’t want to waste it on people who don’t appreciate me. Nope, I’m done. There are always others who deserve your attention and energy, and truly appreciate you. Because some people just don’t deserve you.
