Top 8 questions I've ever gotten about Islam and My Hijab

Since I'm the only Muslim in the office, for real, I'm literally the only one, plus I'm wearing hijab, so  it makes me the "different kid" from the bunch. The good thing is, everyone knows me. They can just point me easily. So if you're on the penthouse floor and you see a little girl wearing hijab walking around, yep, that's me.

Wearing hijab also draw a lot of eyes to me, especially my head. And people are just curious they can't help themselves to do nothing but asking a question about it or about Islam because of the recent event of the rising of ISIS which I don't understand why they have to put Islam in their name since Islam doesn't teach us about killing people, neither do other religions. I mean that's just insane, don't you think? Again, every family got a bad seed in them.

So here are the Top 8 questions I've ever gotten about Islam and My Hijab. I save the best for last ;)

1. Why do you wear it (hijab)?

It's a personal reason and I would like to keep it personal, just between me and Him. So I would really like for you guys to stop asking me this question. The reason why I decided to put hijab on is not something that I'd like to share with people.

2. How long do you wear it (hijab)?

I just start wearing it since January last year, and surprisingly I got raised eyebrows when I gave them the answer. Which leads us to the next question.

3. Your parent asked you to wear it (hijab)?

No! They're not. Idk why people keep assuming that Muslim parents are forcing their children to wear hijab. No. Well at least not my mother. She was actually kinda surprise when I told her that I'm wearing hijab for full-time.

4. So in Islam, men can have more than one wife right?

Believe it or not this question is being asked only by guys in the office. Girls in the office don't even put any attention about this. I can tell they are kinda disagree with it based on their eyes and a slight-raised eyebrows and follow up question when I answered "Yes".

5. Do you have non-Muslim friends?

Yes, Yes I do. You can be friends with whoever you want as long as they do you good, religion has nothing to do with selecting friends. I mean, one of my best friend is a Catholic and we are get along just fine.

6. So you can't eat at all (during Ramadhan)? What about water?

Nope, we can't drink and/or eat during the holy month of Ramadhan. It's not as hard as you think if you've been doing this for the past 14 years of your life. But when iftar (the evening meal when Muslim end their daily Ramadhan fast at sunset) come, and you drink that cold water and it goes down your throat. Woah... the best feeling in the world!

7. Do you have hair underneath your hijab?

No I am bald as Professor X in X-men. Heck yes, I do have hair. I just choose not to show it to people. Dear lovely people, if a girl wear hijab, doesn't mean she's bald and she got ashamed so she covered it with hijab. No.

And it brings us to the most question I got, and to be honest, the most ridiculous thing anyone ever asked me.

8. Do you wear that (hijab) while you're in the shower?

Yes dude, I keep on wearing it while I'm washing my hair because it makes sense and totally logical. -_____-

Oh dear God, please give me lots of patient to bear and to answer this kind of question in the future.

No dude, for a bazillion times, no, I don't wear that in the shower. I mean why would I? If I wore it, how will I wash my hair? Plus, I will wet my hijab with shampoo and soap. Not gonna happen. Sorry.

So there you go.

It was really hard to answer those kind of questions without getting offended. I know they are merely just curious because they don't know much about Islam, and I did try my best to not get offended and not raising my tone although sometimes it offended me a little bit. You guys noticed it right? I mean judging from how I wrote my answer above? Even when I'm writing this, I still got a little bit offended. But... *inhale*... *exhale*.... I did my very best not to. I swear. I'm sorry, I'm not good enough to keep my patience regarding this matter. But I'm willing to get better.

And I know this kind of question will keep on coming in the future, I just hope that I will have a lot of extra patience than what I have now so I can answer it without getting offended no matter how racist or how ridiculous the question might be. And I also pray that my answer will not sound offensive to them. Because I don't want more people to think that Islam is a religion of a terrorist.
